Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose the right size (capacity) dehumidifier for my space?

Measure the square footage of the space and estimate how damp the area is (slightly damp, very damp, or wet). For moderately damp areas up to ~1,000–1,500 sq ft, a compact or mid-size model is usually sufficient. For larger or very damp crawl spaces or basements, choose a model with higher pint/day removal capacity and (if needed) a condensate pump. Kesnos provides a sizing guideline chart on each product page to help you match your space with the correct model.

What humidity level should I aim for in my basement or crawl space?

To prevent mold, mildew, and structural damage due to moisture, keep relative humidity (RH) between 30% and 50%. If ambient humidity is higher, have a dehumidifier run continuously until RH stabilizes within this range.

Does a dehumidifier help prevent mold and musty odors?

Yes. By lowering and stabilizing indoor humidity, dehumidifiers reduce the moisture in the air that mold and mildew need to grow. This also helps eliminate musty odors and improve air quality, creating a healthier indoor environment.

Is a condensate pump necessary, and when should I use it?

A pump is recommended when you want the unit to drain automatically — for example when the dehumidifier is in a basement or crawlspace without a nearby floor drain, or when you can’t regularly check and empty a tank manually. For smaller, well-drained spaces you can use a gravity-drain setup; for larger or less accessible spaces, a built-in pump provides convenience and continuous operation.

How often should I clean and maintain the dehumidifier?

Filter: Clean or wash monthly (depending on dust load).

Coils & Drainage: Every 3–6 months inspect coils and drainage hose/pump for blockages or buildup.

Annual Maintenance: Do a full inspection — clean internal parts, ensure pump/hose drain fluid freely, check electrical connections.

What should I do if the dehumidifier stops working or seems ineffective?

Check whether the power supply is connected correctly.

Confirm whether the humidity set value is lower than the current air humidity.

Check that the water tank is full (if pumpless model).

Check the drain pipe or pump for blockage or damage.

Clean the filter and air inlet and outlet.

Check whether environmental conditions exceed the equipment's rated humidity or temperature range.

If the above is normal but the problem persists, please contact our after-sales support and we will provide professional help and maintenance guidance.

How long does it take for a dehumidifier to noticeably reduce basement humidity?

This depends on the size of the space, initial humidity, air circulation, and equipment capacity. Typically, in an environment of appropriate capacity and enclosed space, a significant drop in humidity will be seen within 48–72 hours. However it is recommended to run for 1–2 weeks until the humidity stabilizes and maintains the target RH (30–50%).
